Set beside a shingled Charlestown home, this custom outdoor shower was built for homeowners who wanted an easy way to rinse off after the beach without tracking sand through the house. We built the enclosure from clear cedar, a premium grade with a smooth, knot-free finish, and framed it out with white post-and-rail trim that ties into the home's existing exterior details.
The floor is ipe, a dense, naturally water-resistant hardwood decking material that holds up well underfoot even when it's wet daily through the summer season. Inside, we added a privacy door, a built-in bench for sitting while rinsing sand off, and wall hooks for towels and swimsuits, small details that make the shower genuinely convenient to use rather than just decorative.
Coastal Rhode Island homes see a lot of wear from sun, salt, and moisture, and this shower was built with materials chosen specifically to handle that environment.
